sent to Madidi
Dear Mr.
Freeman,
Hi! It is my prayer that this letter finds you in good spirits.
I really would like to commend you on your fine restaurant.
On yesterday, December 26, 2002, my family and I drove from
Memphis, TN to have lunch at your restaurant. My mother (who
was home from Nashville) had heard about your restaurant,
so we thought what a perfect time to take the children and
Madea (grandma) out and make it a day. So sixteen of us set
out only
knowing that the restaurant was in Clarksdale. We did not
know the hours of operations neither did we know the name
of the restaurant. We arrived in Clarksdale and asked around
and found this beautiful establishment. Although it was closed
the chief and a hostess were there. They were extremely nice.
We were given a full tour of the facility and we found it
to be most extravagant. We did not get an opportunity to have
our lunch however, we are looking forward to returning, and
having dinner there. Such a blessing to find employees as
nice as they were. Because of their hospitality we will return.
They really honored your name and well represented your business.
Truly Yours, Janis Hester

Linda,
Our bridge club went to Madidi last night and had a great
time! You must have told someone that we might come. The food
was wonderful. I had the romaine salad and striped bass and
crème brulee. We toured upstairs. They were doing an
advertisement video and we were in that (if we don't get edited
out. Actually, I hope my exit from the lime DOES get edited!
No graceful way to get out of one of those!).
Merry Christmas to y'all

Dear Friends;
My wife and I had the pleasure of dining with you last Friday
evening. We were in Clarksdale to celebrate my fiftieth birthday
and found ourselves at your door shortly after five. I asked
your hostess if we could be seated. She was wonderful. Even
though you were fully booked for the evening, we were seated
at a table in the bar area and had one of the most enjoyable
evenings imaginable.
Our waitress and the rest of the wait staff were helpful,
friendly and met all our needs with graceful efficiency. After
my seventh roll I asked the young man to stop and he just
smiled. We dined on poulet sauté and pork tenderloin
both of which were perfectly prepared and beautifully presented.
Chef Krog stopped by the table for a nice visit and answered
some questions about out meal's preparation.
Your staff, both out front and in the kitchen, is to be highly
praised. We have eaten in many excellent restaurants over
the years, but Madidi is in a class all to itself. Please
don't change. We look forward to our return visit which would
be right away if we didn't live 150 miles from Clarksdale.
Again "thank you' for a wonderful evening, a wonderful
meal, and some wonderful memories.
Yours in friendship,
Dr. Jack Bennett

Dear manager:
I recently had a most enjoyable evening at your restaurant.
The staff assisted me in my selection and I was very pleased.
The service was great; the food was beautifully prepared and
second only to the quality of my dinner. Everything from the
time we entered the door was simply delightful. My only regret
is that I usually only get to Clarksdale during the King Biscuit
Blues Festival and, therefore, I can only experience your
restaurant once a year. Thanks for the great evening and please
know that you have a fan in Louisville.
I extend my regards and remain, very truly yours,
Robert A. Chandler

What a great experience it was to visit
Madidi!!!
I participated in a bus trip to the Mississippi Delta sponsored
by east Arkansas Community College in Forrest City, Arkansas,
on Saturday, September 21, 2002. After a day of shopping for
pottery and antiques, we arrived in Clarksdale at Madidi a
bit earlier than we were expected. The 40+ of us descended
upon the bar area en masse, but were received graciously by
the bar staff. Chef David Krog pitched in and assisted in
providing prompt and enthusiastic service to a room full of
thirsty travelers.
After enjoying our drinks and the environment of the relaxing
bar area, we proceeded upstairs to the large dining room where
we were served. (I could rave on incessantly about dinner,
but suffice it to say it was superb in every respect-as was
the impeccable service. Chef David Krog is certainly to be
commended. It was a supremely enjoyable dining experience,
and a lovely way to end a pleasant day in the Mississippi
Delta. We all returned to Arkansas, feeling thoroughly spoiled
and eager to find an opportunity to return to Madidi.
Thank you for a simply lovely evening.

Recently I read an article in my hometown newspaper, Pittsburgh
Post-gazette, about Morgan Freeman and his two business establishments,
Madidi and Ground Zero. I am currently visiting my daughter,
son-in-law and granddaughter in Germantown, TN. Since Clarksdale
is relatively close to Germantown and upon my suggestion,
we made a reservation at Madidi for dinner on Saturday, July
6.
The service was quite good with appropriate attention from
the waitress and other servers. We agreed that our meals were
superb and presented very tastefully! Chef Krog was very kind
to my daughter and her husband and encouraged them to use
his name with Chef Justin at La Tourelle in Memphis, which
is one of their favorite restaurants. What would have made
the evening more memorable I am certain would have been a
general greeting by Mr. Freeman.

To Owner/Manager:
I wish I had had the time to fill out a comment card at your
restaurant the night (around the 16th of June 2002) that my
wife and I had a meal there at your restaurant. To think about
it we might not have been able to have dinner there (9PM),
had it not been for the fact that the young lady who seated
us had got permission to seat us, not knowing ahead of time
that we needed reservations. We stayed in the Shacks near
Madidi's (which was given high praise by the folks there).
We came to the area because of hearing that Clarksdale was
one of the main areas that blues music had gotten it's start
years before. I've been into blues/rock and roll/country most
of my life. We wish we had had more time to visit the areas
(we did visit the museum downtown the next morning) from Clarksdale
on down South to Vicksburg, but we had to get back to Montgomery
as I would be shipping out in a couple of days to come over
seas as I had been activated (to be here till around Christmas
2002).
It was an even bigger surprise to see that Mr. Morgan Freeman
was having dinner in his own place. I wanted to go over and
just shake his hand, but other folks were with him and my
wife cautioned me not to do it, so I didn't, because I felt
as well, that entertainers are normally bombarded by so many
people that they have the right to their privacy as well as
others, so that's why I didn't, but I wanted to also say that
the restaurant lived up to it's reputation and was very exquisite/luxurious.
The restaurant brings a lot of things to regular people like
me that give us a taste of a restaurant of that caliber that
most folks aren't exposed to. The food was excellent, as was
the service, along with the atmosphere created a very enjoyable
and special time for my wife and myself. I have fond memories
of our visit, as I have told everyone I've come in contact
with since my experience there and I hope to be able to visit
there again when I get back form overseas.
I just feel compelled to let you know what our visit meant
to my wife and I.
